Syrian government troops retake rebel-held town in northern Idlib
Posted August 21, 2018 06:00:48A Syrian army unit has captured a key rebel-controlled town in the northwestern province of Idlib, a monitoring group said on Wednesday.
The Observatory said the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) captured Al-Rashideen village, located on the road between Aleppo and the northwestern city of Idlib.
The SDF is backed by the US-led coalition against the so-called Islamic State (IS), which is battling to control large swaths of Syria and Iraq.
The town, about 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) from the Turkish border, was the last rebel-occupied town in Idlib province, according to the monitoring group.SDF troops captured the town on Tuesday, according the Observatory.
